Robert Hugh-Company Accountant

"I have had the privilege of being Artistic Director of the company since 1990, and of working with many talented and creative actors, designers, writers, musicians, directors and technicians.

As I sit in our rehearsal room on the first floor of an old school building in the north of Cardiff, about to start work on our next production, I am aware that the room is alive with characters and images from previous shows; this is the place where they were born:

...the lonely old sailor - who scours the beach everyday looking for treasures washed up by the sea - and his companion, the bird who talks.

...the delightful child, Connie, who wants to explore the world while her Dad wants her to take a rest.

...the three brothers - fighting and throwing spaghetti around in a broken-down old kitchen - frightened and vulnerable when they realise that their father has abandoned them.

...Mandy - 10 years old and missing her Dad, angry with her mother, her nose out of joint because she has a new step-brother -consoling herself by dancing with her imaginary friend, Stan Laurel.

...Marcos, the Spanish boy - surviving in the mountains with only animals to keep him company - his best friend, a snake, protecting him.

In the early part of the 21st century our aim is still to create quality vibrant theatre to stir the imagination, inspire the heart, and challenge the mind."
