Having enough friends and falling in and out of love with them, is possibly the biggest single cause of teenage angst.
Perhaps for the first time in a young person's life, the teenage stage is when friendships become more important than families, providing a social and emotional network which is exactly in tune with their needs.
It is against this background that Theatr Iolo has based its next production, and the team there are currently talking to teenagers from Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to find out exactly what friendship means to them.
