Weapon Offences Workshop

Theatr Iolo joins forces with South Wales Police as part of the Governments national initiative to tackle knife crime.  South Wales Police have a strong desire to reduce knife crime and as a result reducing serious injuries and deaths by nurturing a closer relationship with young people throughout the force area. Schools Liaison Officers within the Vale of Glamorgan are keen to develop this scheme by implementing a series of Educational Drama Workshops within the Vale of Glamorgan’s Comprehensive Schools to discuss the issues of knife crime within the UK.

Theatre Iolo has appointed Emyr Bell to co-ordinate this project and to work with the young people on this exciting but extremely important venture. Emyr is an experienced workshop facilitator and has worked extensively as an actor within theatre for young people and community theatre, television and radio for the past fourteen years.

The Workshops will be primarily offered to GCSE & A level Drama and Performing Arts students in Barry Comprehensive, Bryn Hafren Comprehensive, Cowbridge Comprehensive, St Cyres Comprehensive and Stanwell Comprehensive schools.

The project will enable students to develop their acting and drama skills whilst devising a performance piece exploring the issues of knife crime in the UK. The participants will then perform their devised piece to their peers during school assemblies.
