HOOF! Reviews by our Young Playwrights

Hoof! Review By Faaris

The air was crisp and the sky blue as an intriguing stage and welcoming staff invited you to take a seat on the cosy mats in front of the set. Before the play had even started, I could tell that it was going to be a fantastic family experience.

The clacking of tap shoes on the concrete and wooden floor was very satisfying and it allowed the actors to waltz across the stage in a hilariously blissful way.

The chemistry between all three ‘reindeer’ was enlightening as they flowed in unison, delightfully portraying the adventures of three inquisitive reindeer. The dance choreography was performed in a zestful manner that provoked rapturous laughter from the crowd. The tap-dancing abilities demonstrated by the actors were second to none. They conveyed the message of each dance in a spectacular way. Every single member of the crowd felt included and I personally felt as though I was a part of the performance!

In terms of sound design, I can’t say much more than brilliant! From the lively tunes to the subtle comedic sound effects that were dittoed throughout the play, they all felt as though they were perfectly matched for each scene. References to classic songs and tunes made the audience clap and dance together. All ages from grandparents and parents right through to infants laughed and giggled together. It was such a warm feeling to finally participate in something as a large group, after such a long period in isolation from one another. It truly made mine and my family’s day!

The comedic curiosity shown by the performers, made the simple props and practical effects come alive. I particularly enjoyed the bubbles that the ‘reindeer’ had never seen before. All these practical effects added to the majestic nature of this innocent and lovely production.

I can’t overstate how included I and my family felt as audience members and how fantastically the actors performed for us all on the quirky stage. Definitely worth seeing Hoof!

4 and a half stars! Review by Esme

It was a great performance with lots of  different types of dances (e.g ballet, tap dance, etc.) that looked like they were so much work! It had some elements of comedy in there which I thought worked really well.

The stage looked amazing, and the only reason I deducted half a star is because since I'm a little bit older, (11) I would've preferred a storyline or a plot. But the age rating is 4+ and I think that this play is perfect for viewers of that age.

Definitely something I would've loved when I was little.

Overall, great!
