Remarkable Rhythm is moving through Wales and England!

Krystal S. Lowe, in association with Theatr Iolo, has created a mash-up of dance and theatre for young audiences, with access for blind and Deaf audiences creatively and seamlessly integrated. Through R&B music and dynamic movement, Remarkable Rhythmexplores how we connect with those most unlike us, creating an exciting and engaging audience experience from start to finish.

Remarkable Rhythm has been written and directed by dancer, choreographer, writer, and director, Krystal S. Lowe, and developed through her role as Theatr Iolo's 2021– 2023 Platfform Artist.

Remarkable Rhythm is a dance theatre show for young people 11+ and their families, performed by Krystal S. Lowe and Liam Wallace, who is a dancer, choreographer, and practitioner.

Rhythm is spontaneous and experiences life as movement and all sound as music. Glas loves life smooth and stable, and prefers things to remain the same. When Rhythm and Glas meet at Bellevue Park, they have the five days of half-term to see if their friendship is worth keeping once they go back to their separate schools.

Through music and movement and mishap, these two young people experience the difficulty and joy in connecting with those unlike themselves.

One bench, two people, and five days.

Will they find a way to create something remarkable, a rhythm that is theirs alone?

The two performers will speak whilst dancing, creatively describing what is happening on stage. This integrated audio description allows audiences who are blind or partially sighted to fully experience the show.  The story is also told visually through dance and movement, which also allows Deaf audiences to experience every show fully.

“Theatr Iolo are delighted to be supporting Remarkable Rhythm, a wonderful new piece of theatre for young people, packed with music and movement. Krystal has been developing the show for several years as part of our Platform programme, a scheme that helps to develop new work for young audiences. We’re thrilled that young audiences in England and Wales will now have the chance to see this exciting new show when it tours this spring.”

Lee Lyford, Theatr Iolo Artistic Director

“My work strives to push the boundaries of dance and theatre by blending them together while ensuring to seamlessly weave access into the work to support the widest range of audiences possible the opportunity to engage in the work. Remarkable Rhythm is such an exciting example of all I hope to see more of in the world of art: underrepresented stories, dynamic movement, R&B music, and creatively integrated access.”
