The Welsh Dragon: Cast Announcement
We are thrilled to announce the cast of our bold new play for children, The Welsh Dragon, which will tour to venues across Wales this autumn.
Written by Kyle Lima, The Welsh Dragon is a historical, mythological children’s storytelling show that fuses verse, rhyme, music and rap. It will challenge audiences of all ages to question the stories handed down from generation to generation.
Jaden Baker (Many Good Men, Macbeth) will play Cheddar Man, a character inspired by the real life 10,000 year old man whose remains were found in Cheddar Gorge, and who was discovered to have dark skin. Kimberley Abodunrin (Betty Campbell: A Journey Through Butetown) will take on the role of the Welsh Dragon, the play’s fierce superhero. Also joining the cast are Richard Nichols (Lost Boys & Fairies, Mudtown, Pen-Blwydd Poenus Pete) as King Vortigern and Lizzie Rogan (The Way, Gwaith Cartref, The Importance Of Being Described... Earnestly?) as Aunt Jo. Making her professional stage debut is Iesha Henry-Cameron as G.
Written by Cardiff-born playwright and actor, Kyle Lima, The Welsh Dragon will be Directed by Ewa Dina. Joining the Creative Team are Eädyth Crawford as Composer, Kyle Legall as Designer and Katy Morison as Lighting Designer.
The Welsh Dragon will open at Chapter in Cardiff on 7 October 2024, before touring to The Met in Abertillery, The Welfare Ystradgynlais, Pontardawe Arts Centre, The Riverfront in Newport, Memo Arts Centre in Barry, Y Muni in Pontypridd, Ffwrnes in Llanelli, Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon, and Blackwood Miners’ Institute.
The Welsh Dragon will be Audio Described at Chapter on 9 Oct at 7pm, Theatr Brycheiniog on 31 October at 2pm and Blackwood Miners’ Institute on 2 November at 2pm.
There will be British Sign Language Interpreted Performances at Chapter on 9 October at 7pm and at Blackwood Miners’ Institute on 02 November at 2pm.
There will also be a Relaxed Performance at The Riverfront on 19 October at 2pm and
Theatr Brycheiniog on 31 October at 2pm.
