Opportunity: Free Audio Description Training

Young woman stands next to a blue sofa, leaning all the way forward, so that her head rests, upside down, on the sofa cushion. She looks straight at the camera, a little confused.

Theatr Iolo are seeking someone to be trained as an Audio Describer for our future performances. Audio Describers work with theatre companies / venues to provide a spoken description of what is happening on stage for audience members who are blind or have a visual impairment.

The training is provided for free (paid for by Theatr Iolo) and the successful person will then be paid for all future performances for which they provide audio description. As well as working for Theatr Iolo, you will also be able to seek work as an audio describer at other venues throughout the UK.

We would like the successful person to have a keen interest in describing children's theatre and making our work accessible to all. Please note that our performances predominantly happen during the daytime (weekdays and weekends), both during school holidays and in term time. We are particularly keen to hear from fluent and confident Welsh speakers.

The training will take place in Cardiff and will be delivered in English. It will include the opportunity to work on a professional performance at Chapter. You will need to be available for the following dates:

· Do you have the capacity to attend performances in both the daytime and evening, in the week and at weekends?

· Are you willing and able to travel to venues throughout Wales?

If you are interested in this opportunity, please email michelle@theatriolo.com by Thursday 5 May with a short description about yourself and why you would like to learn to be an Audio Describer.

Please note that the cost of the training is covered by Theatr Iolo, but this is not a paid opportunity. Participants must be able to give up their time to take part in the training.
