Theatr Iolo’s show Owl at Home, wings its way to Poland for children’s theatre festival this October.
The children’s theatre company, Theatr Iolo, are set to delight young audiences in Warsaw with their show based on the 1975 children’s book, Owl at Home, by Arnold Lobel. The autumnal tale for children aged 5-11 is about an owl who lives by himself but finds fun and friendship amongst the solitude.
“We’re delighted to be able to take Owl at Home to Poland to be part of Festival of Theater for Children and Youth KORCZAK TODAY. Our adaptation of this classic tale combines visual comedy, music, and movement to inspire children to explore the wonderful world of their imagination.
Lee Lyford, Artistic Director
"Theatr Iolo’s Owl at Home is a charming production and a wonderful contribution to the UK/Poland Season 2025. We're proud to see Welsh creativity taking centre stage in this important cultural exchange. Theatre has a real ability to spark imagination and connection in young people, and we're delighted to support this growing partnership between Wales and Poland."
Elena Schmitz, Head of Arts, British Council Wales
Owl at Home is a thoughtful and funny show about an Owl who lives alone in a cosy little home in the woods. With no one to talk to, Owl sings to himself and looks for ways to pass the time. He wonders about things a lot, but sometimes his imagination runs away with him and ordinary objects begin to take on a life of their own! Amongst the chaos, Owl finds an unexpected friend who’s willing to follow him to the ends of the earth... whether he likes it or not! An enchanting tale with music, Owl at Home shows us how friendship can be found in the most unlikely of places.
Owl at Home was performed in Wales and England in 2022 and 2023, before touring to China in 2024 and is now due to make its Poland debut. Owl at Home is written for the stage by Rina Vergano and is directed by Theatr Iolo’s Artistic Director, Lee Lyford, starring actor and musician George Williams as Owl.
Owl at Home will take place from 17 – 19 October 2025, at the Festival of Theater for Children and Youth KORCZAK TODAY. Owl at Home is supported by the British Council under the UK/Poland Season 2025. The UK/Poland Season 2025 is a joint initiative by the British Council, the Polish Cultural Institute in London, and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw, presenting over 100 dynamic events across both countries in 2025.
